– The Stevenage Comet reported on the Stevenage Karate Club’s success at the AMA.
– Sensei John Gillespie, Robbie Nutter, Luke Mascall and Charlie Fisher are also members of the Birchwood club.

Stevenage Karate Club sent a squad of 11 to the AMA International Championships in Nottingham. The successful squad, based at the arts and leisure centre, brought back one gold medal (Daniel Croucher) and four bronzes (Luke Mascall, Farah Malik, Robert Nutter and Conor Green) after competing against some of the best people from seven countries.
Kata squad coaches John Gillespie and Paul Raymond had even more success at the Karate England National Championships in Sheffield.
John won gold and Paul took the silver in the Masters kata event.
John won a further bronze medal in the Masters kumite the following day.
